The International SOLAS (Surface Ocean - Lower Atmosphere Study) Project is an international research initiative comprising of over 1900 scientists in 75 countries. The SOLAS International Project Office (IPO) is based in Kiel, Germany with a further Nodal Office in Norwich, United Kingdom. The IPO coordinates and communicates with research teams all over the world. The projects primary objective is:

"to achieve quantitative understanding of the key biogeochemical-physical interactions and feedbacks between the ocean and atmosphere, and of how this coupled system affects and is affected by climate and environmental change."
