open on 15 April: http://www.solas2009.confmanager.com/

*FINAL OPPORTUNITY: Contribute to the next SOLAS news focussing on SOLAS collaborations*
If your research cross-cuts with other projects, programmes or networks (e.g. IMBER, IGAC, IPY, GEOTRACES, PICES etc) and you wish to contribute a timely scientific article, email Georgia with your expression of interest.

*14 new and exciting national reports*
National annual reports of 2008 activities in the following 14 countries are accessible via this link: Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China (P.R.), France, Ireland, Japan, New Zealand, Norway, Russia, South Africa,Taiwan, Turkey and the UK.

Congratulations to the 72 successful applicants who have accepted their invitation to the SOLAS Summer School

*9th SOLAS Scientific Steering Committee meeting held in Washington DC*
The SOLAS SSC met in Washington DC at the end of March with mid-term strategic planning, the Open Science Conference (Barcelona, 16-19 November 2009) and the Summer School (August 2009) high on the agenda. The Committee took the opportunity to meet with a number of US Agency representatives to discuss their strategic priorities: (i) atmospheric control of nutrient cycling and marine production (ii) marine aerosol formation, (iii) ship plumes (iv) sea-ice, (v) gas fluxes in eastern boundary upwelling systems (vi) large-scale field experiments for hypothesis testing and (vii) ocean and atmosphere time series observations.

Projects officially endorsed by SOLAS

DUNE- A dust experiment in a low-nutrient, low-chlorophyll ecosystem, to estimate the impact of atmospheric inputs on an oligotrophic ecosystem submitted to strong atmospheric inputs.
