News from the SOLAS IPO

Reorganisation and relocation of the IPO

From 1 April 2010, the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and the Leibniz Institute of Marine Sciences (IFM-GEOMAR) will be co-funding the IPO. The IPO will be split in two, with one half remaining at the University of East Anglia, UK, and the other half relocating to in IFM-GEOMAR in Kiel, Germany, where the SOLAS Scientific Steering Committee Chair is located. Emilie Breviere, SOLAS Executive Officer, will be moving to Kiel at the end of March.

International Project Offices' meeting at IGBP headquarters in Stockholm

The SOLAS IPO staff met with their counterparts from the 7 other IGBP core projects at a 3-day meeting hosted by the International Geosphere Biosphere Programme (IGBP) Secretariat. The meeting addressed issues such as enhancing collaboration and communication between core projects and promoting core project science and accomplishments. IGBP's executive director Sybil Seitzinger also presented the upcoming IGBP 2nd synthesis, which will involve 10 key policy-relevant topics for global environmental change research. The meeting also gave the IPOs a chance to share their knowledge and experience in communications, summer schools, open science conferences and interactions with their host institutions.
