The European CoOperation in Science and Technology (COST) Action 735 'Tools for assessing global air-sea fluxes of climate and air pollution relevant gases' aims to enhance collaboration and knowledge sharing between COST member states, with the overarching goal to further our understanding of how air-sea interactions affect the Earth's climate. Click here to read the COST Memorandum Of Understanding that has been signed by all member countries.
The Action is now calling for proposals for workshops and Short Term Scientific Missions (STSMs) to take place between 1st June 2010 and 31st May 2011. It is expected that between 5 and 8 workshops and 4-5 STSMs will be funded this year. Please note that grants can only be awarded to researchers based in a COST signatory country. To submit a proposal for either a workshop or an STSM, please download the relevant guidelines and application form and return the completed application form to solas@uea.ac.uk by 16th April 2010. Successful applicants will be informed by the end of June.
Workshops
Funding for workshops includes travel and subsistence for participants and a workshop 'subsidy' that is usually used to cover coffee breaks and other small meeting expenses.
The workshops should address one or more of the following themes to be eligible for funding:
- Short-lived trace gas production and biological feedbacks
- Physical processes controlling air-sea exchange
- Air-sea flux of long-lived climate active gases.

STSMs
These are grants of up to 2,500 euros awarded to young scientists to allow them to spend a research period of up to 3 months in a host institution to foster collaboration, learn a new technique or take measurements using methods not available in their own institution.
