Fluxes of Biogenic and Oxygenated VOCs from In Situ Mesocosm Studies of Seawaters from the South‐west Pacific Ocean

Rocco et al (2025)

Emissions fluxes of oxygenated volatile organic compounds (OVOCs) and other biogenic VOCs (BVOCs) were measured in the South West Pacific ocean during the Sea2Cloud voyage. We reported that these fluxes are exhibiting the emissions fluxes of the same order of magnitude or greater than that of dimethyl sulfide (DMS, see SOLAS newsletter of February 2025). These fluxes were reliable to phytoplanktonic groups in the seawater and notably with nanophytoplankton. These results, published in JGR-Atmospheres journal, provide insights to better understand the repartition of BVOCs and OVOCs emissions in the atmosphere and then chemistry transport models.
